Digital collage on canvas by E. Alana James
30cm x 30cm
Yoyoi Kusama is known for her triumph over hardships endured in childhood and her struggles with mental illness and how that has played into her art. Alana was once told that she would either have been an artist or a drug addict and believes that inner intensity and traumas frequently play into the drive to create. This small self-portrait brings those ideas into one in an image a friend of hers called “creepy.” Good! Art should dance with what is beautiful as well as the parts of life that are creepy.
