Digital collage on canvas by E. Alana James

30cm x 30cm

This is Alana’s favortie from the Practical Art History creative doors. Here she invesitgate patterned backgrounds and reimaging personalities from colonial artwork. The original character, shown here clearly in drag was an effeminant minor character who, seen through the eyes of 21st century pride fests was very appropriate for reimaging in modern terms.

The process Alana uses for digital collage involves taking and curating photos, and collaging them using digital resizing and reformatting techniques. This generally ends up in 20+ layers to manipulate, then embellished after the collage is printed on canvas. She frequently uses glitter, heavily varnished to add shine to the bubbles without shedding. Whatever the embellishment, it lifts the eye and adds depth to the finished work which may not show in these photographs. Every digital collage is available personally signed, in a limited edition of ten.
